John: the Prototypical, Fashion-Forward, Health Food-Fueled Prophet

Clothes: Camel’s Hair
Belt: Leather
Food: Locusts Washed Down with Wild Honey

John’s clothes were made of camel’s hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.

He might not have made the cut on Project Runway or Top Chef, but he might have been the original Apprentice.

Too Bad He Didn’t Have a Couple of School Buses or a Radio Show or “Anointed Prayer Towels” or Something … Who Knows? He Might Have Been Able to Make a Real Impact for the Kingdom!

Jesus, God the Son: a Baptized Man
The Spirit of God: like a Dove Descending and Landing
God the Father: a Voice from Heaven

As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

From Eden on, it’s been Easy– and Wrong– for Us to Presume Authority and Privileges to which We Have No Proper Claim

“Do Not Swear at All …

Not by heaven (God’s Throne)
Not by earth (God’s footstool)
Not by Jerusalem (the Great King’s City)”

But I tell you, do not swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black.

He Didn’t Say, “Keep it to a Minimum.” He said, “Don’t Swear at All.”
